    Procedures
  • Has a quarantine area been set aside if isolating sick animals?
  • Are procedures in place to be able to contact veterinary surgeons quickly?
  • Are there procedures in place for disposing of dead animals in an approved manner?
  • Are the nocturnal houses and sled environs regularly cleaned?


  • Equipment

  • Is protective equipment provided eg. face masks to reduce respiratory problems/Asthma, while cleaning nocturnal houses, pens or cages?
  • Is appropriate signage in place eg. beware wombat may bite?
  • Is food stored in sealed containers?
  • Are fences and yards in good condition?


  • Training

  • Are students instructed in the correct animal handling techniques?
  • Are students instructed in the correct procedure for trapping?
  • Have students been instructed in the handling of animals in a quiet and gentle approach?


  • Beast Specific Issues

  • Are animals regularly health checked and treated if needed?


  • Health/Hygiene

  • Are wash up facilities readily available (hot & cold water, soap) and used by students?
  • Have students been instructed in hygiene eg. tetanus shots.
  • Is there a well-equipped First Aid Kit readily available?
