Urrbrae is designated by the Department of Education Training
and Employment (DETE) as the Special Interest School in Agriculture
and therefore provides more comprehensive courses in Agriculture
and Horticulture than other secondary schools.
Urrbrae is also recognised by the Department as a focus school
in Environmental Education/Landcare and Technology across
the whole school curriculum.
Since Urrbrae is a government High School there are no expensive
tuition fees and students pay similar fees to those charged
at other State high schools. In addition to
the subject of Agriculture, students also study the normal
range of secondary school subjects. Students in the Senior
School may elect to study one of the 4 specialised Certificate
Courses offered or the Engineering Pathways Program. Students
who attend Urrbrae qualify for entry to all types of University
degree and diploma courses and for entry to TAFE courses.
On leaving Urrbrae, students gain employment in the whole
range of careers, including medicine, law, journalism, commerce,
as well as agriculture or horticulture.
In a unique move for an S.A. state school, Urrbrae Agricultural
High School has created a Foundation to help maintain its
position as the pre-eminent agricultural secondary school
in Australia.
In order to sustain the International and National reputation
of Urrbrae the school is dedicated to using and teaching 21st
Century technology to the agricultural scientists and practitioners
of the future.
Dr. Bruce Eastick, Chairman of the Foundation Committee said
- "There are many individuals and businesses throughout Australia
who have benefited from Urrbrae in one way or another, now
is the opportunity for them to provide a tangible expression
of their support."
The Foundation provides a unique way of raising funds for
a state school and enabling Urrbrae to continue to be a world
leader in seconadary agricultural education.
